The Yogurt Paradox

There comes a moment in life when you start focusing on—and prioritizing—only those things that have an expiration date, like a yogurt. I call it - The yogurt paradox.

Have you ever caught yourself living from one deadline to the next? Before you can even process what just happened, you’re already racing toward the next stretch—at the end of which lies nothing but a deadline for a task that needs completing.

And that vicious cycle keeps spinning endlessly.

You need to get married, because there might not be another chance to meet the "right" person; you need to have children, since the biological clock is ticking and society is pressuring you about declining birth rates; you need to find a good job and build a career to earn a living and meet expectations; you need to buy a home, because the bank might not grant a loan later... need, need, need... You have to get everything done by the deadline, because it might be too late otherwise.

There comes a moment in life when you start focusing on—and prioritizing—only those things that have an expiration date, like a yogurt.

You rush to pay bills, finish tasks, and snap up the best deals, yet you forget your dreams and the wish list you created in childhood, when life seemed simple and everything felt possible.

You live to work, until one morning you start asking yourself: Is this really what I wanted? Am I living just to pay the bills? Is that all I’m worth? Where did my dreams go? Do my dreams have an expiration date? After all, life itself does... Is it true that as long as we don't know that date, we avoid actually living?

And then another thought arises: perhaps I am truly incapable of doing anything other than working a standard salaried job just to pay the bills. We often live according to the scripts of others—people who were afraid to dream, afraid to pursue their goals, and who settled for what was imposed upon them. That is how we were taught, too. And then it seems as though I only dreamed because I was foolish.

But in reality, I dreamed because I was free—free from imposed rules and the word "need." After all, the only thing one need to do is go to the bathroom; everything else is a choice. And so, we live according to the choices we make.

You often reflect on the fact that you aren't living the life you want. You are afraid to start something new because you don't know if you will succeed. It is hard to let go of what you already have. Dreams grow old; you don't exactly throw them away, even though they have become like expired yogurt—covered in mold and seemingly no longer fit for use.

Our mind fears the unknown. However, as you take small steps toward your dreams, the mind begins to adapt; day by day, it feels safer engaging in new activities, allowing you to take greater risks, become more involved, and dream even bigger. That is why you shouldn't put off your dreams. You need to realize and live them now, because later, your life’s expiration date might arrive.
